How to prepare for your massage at home

In our increasingly busy lives, booking a massage at home can be a lifesaver, especially for expectant mums or those with little ones at home when getting out can be challenging. My mission with In Touch is to offer high quality, safe and effective massage treatments which are accessible, convenient and flexible for the mums and mums-to-be of Norfolk, which is why I work as a mobile massage therapist. If it’s your first time having a massage at home, you might be uncertain about how to prepare. This guide is here to help you get the most out of your massage at home.

Space

First and foremost, ensure there’s enough space for me to set up the massage table. My massage table is 185cm long and 65cm wide and I’ll need a little bit of extra room to move around comfortably as I complete your massage. I don’t need much space but it would be helpful if you could clear the area of any clutter so that I don’t end up interrupting your massage session by knocking over a table lamp or stepping on a toy!

Privacy

Close your curtains or blinds to create a private, cosy and more relaxing atmosphere. You could also consider putting a ‘do not disturb’ sign on your door to avoid any unwanted interruptions, like a postal delivery or a neighbour popping by. To ensure you get the most out of your relaxing massage experience, put your phone on silent or do not disturb mode so that your peaceful session is not disturbed by a sudden call or notification.

Warmth and Comfort

The temperature of the room can significantly affect your massage experience. Whilst you are lying still for your massage, you might find yourself starting to feel a little chilly even on a warm day, so make sure that your room is warm and cosy to facilitate relaxation and make you feel more comfortable during the session.

Consider the Right Music

Music plays a critical role in setting the mood for relaxation. If you’re pregnant, research shows that babies can recognise music played regularly during pregnancy for months after they’re born. So, consider choosing relaxing tunes that you can later use to help soothe your newborn. If you’re practising hypnobirthing, your hypnobirthing tracks could be an excellent choice. Don’t worry if you don’t have a preference; I can recommend a few soundtracks that promote relaxation and help to bring the spa experience to your home.

And lastly, as your massage session approaches, take a deep breath and prepare to unwind. A good massage can do wonders for your stress levels and overall well-being. So, follow these simple steps to prepare and make the most of your at home massage experience.

As always, if you have any questions about booking your mobile pregnancy, due time, postnatal or relaxation massage in Norwich and Norfolk, please get in touch via the contact page, or book a FREE consultation to chat things through with me.
