Pregnancy Massage

It’s hard work growing a baby!

Benefits Of A Pregnancy Massage

Apart from feeling great, scientific evidence tells us that pregnancy massage offers so much more than just a nice feeling, it can:

  • Reduce the level of stress hormones in the body and increase the levels of ‘feel good’ hormones in the body which your unborn baby can also benefit from
  • Help you to connect with your changing body and your growing baby; strengthening your bond with your baby during pregnancy
  • Reduce feelings of anxiety or depression, by reducing levels of cortisol and increasing levels of serotonin and dopamine
  • Improve circulation and reduce swelling – lymphatic drainage massage techniques can help with this especially
  • Help to relieve pregnancy-related aches and pains, such as lower back pain, pelvic pain, restless legs & carpal tunnel
  • Improve the quality of your sleep
  • Boost the immune system (especially when experienced regularly)

Why Me

As a massage therapist who is also a qualified and experienced midwife & health visitor, I am not afraid of pregnant people! So you can expect a really good massage, not just a light touch! I have the knowledge and confidence to treat you to a massage that will address those aches and pains, yet feel relaxing at the same time. I also have the knowledge and confidence to understand how to treat you safely and when extra adjustments may need to be made.

My style as a massage therapist is calm and nurturing, so you can expect to feel looked after, safe and cared for during your treatments with me.

You can visit me at The Retreat in Brundall, a peaceful sanctuary where you can escape the busyness of everyday life, or I can bring the massage to you at home with my mobile service. Massage at home works particularly well for the latter stages of pregnancy, for the Due Time treatment, or if you are suffering with significant pregnancy related symptoms.

FAQ

For most people, massage during pregnancy is perfectly safe, with some adaptations, however there are some occasions when massage would not be recommended. You can read more about the safety of pregnancy massage, and find some tips on what to look for when booking a pregnancy massage on my blog pages.

One of the main ways pregnancy massage differs from regular massage is in the positioning used to ensure both comfort and safety.

The short answer here is, no, massage cannot induce labour, however, research tells us that massage, acupressure and aromatherapy can help to shorten the first stage of labour. Read more about this on my blog pages.
