Pregnancy is a period of growth, change, and anticipation as you prepare to welcome a new life into the world. One of the aspects of pregnancy that I am passionate about is bonding with your baby, and here at In Touch, I aim for my pregnancy massages to help you to take time to focus and connect with you baby, thereby strengthening your bond. I recognise that whilst some people feel a connection with their baby from before they even take a pregnancy test, for others this may take some time and active thought.

Bonding with your baby during pregnancy is important because it provides the foundation of your relationship with your baby once they are born. All of brain science over recent years has told us that our relationships, experiences and environment during pregnancy and the first 2 years of life has an extraordinary impact on the rest of our lives.

One of the ways that you can focus and build on your bond with your baby is through pregnancy massage. Pregnancy massage, also known as prenatal massage, is a type of massage therapy specifically designed for expectant mothers. It aims to alleviate pregnancy-related discomforts, improve overall well-being, and bring about a strong connection with your changing body and your growing baby.

How can Pregnancy Massage support Bonding with Your Baby?

  • Emotional Connection: Pregnancy massage allows you to take a break from you busy life and focus solely on your connection with their baby. The deep relaxation experienced during a massage can help reduce stress and anxiety, allowing you to feel more in tune with your baby’s movements and emotions. A soothing pregnancy massage not only relaxes you, but it can also promotes the release of oxytocin – the love hormone – which plays a crucial role in bonding with you baby.
  • Time to focus and visualise your baby: As you relax during the massage, it allows you to focus and visualise your baby, creating a stronger mental and emotional connection. This practice of visualising your baby can help you to feel more connected and in tune with your baby’s needs and development.
  • Encourages Mindful Touch: During a pregnancy massage, you become more aware of your body and your baby. This heightened sensitivity can encourage you engage in mindful touch, such as touching your bump and responding to baby’s movements. This physical communication can strengthen the bond between you and your baby. Did you know that recent research tells us that towards the end of pregnancy, an unborn baby may be able to tell the difference between its mother’s touch and someone else’s? Amazing!

Pregnancy massage can be a great way to focus and build on your bond with your baby. Massage offers numerous emotional, physical, and hormonal benefits. By taking the time to care for yourself and your baby through massage, you can create a strong, lasting connection that will continue to flourish as your baby grows.
